Vestibular Therapy
Dizziness is a leading cause of falls in the older population and it is estimated nearly half the population will experience dizziness at least once in their lifetime. Dizziness can occur as result of central and peripheral (inner ear) disorders. A comprehensive physical therapy program is often used to treat “stable” vestibular deficits. Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) is the most common cause of vertigo and most often treated in our facility. We typically treat this condition with physical maneuvers known as canalith repositioning.
Other procedures used to treat vestibular conditions include: habituation exercises, balance training, and vestibulo-ocular reflex stimulation. Our therapists will work with you in order to accurately identify your best treatment options to reduce your dizziness and minimize a recurrence.
